Ann Page Foods Bean Surprise

Ann Page foods, never heard of it! Apparently this is the A&P food store chain, it didn't exist in my area so I'm not familiar with it, but for those who know it this will be quite nostalgic!
"Bean Surprise" looks like food I would make! A fresh, whole tomato stuffed with delicious pork and beans and topped with bacon. Side dish or main meal...you decide! The recipe calls for those Ann Page Beans, whether or not there are still A&P stores is a mystery to me-but I would go with good old Bush's beans in mine. A great new way to serve those garden fresh tomatoes!

Spam Bean Bake

From Better Homes and Gardens, June 1952

Spam fans?? Here's a great dinner for you to try! Looks like a great, savory dish for those cold fall nights coming up!! Yum-Yum! Everything's better with baked beans! Try this with the pineapple dessert for a real nostalgic dinner!

French's Busy Day Beans

Better Homes and Gardens, June 1952

Here's another Labor Day grill-out dish everyone will enjoy! Who doesn't love baked beans with their hamburger?? The only mystery item in this one-French's onion flakes?? What are those! Oh well, try some dried onions or fried onions...or fresh onions! The rest of this recipe sounds like barbecue heaven!!  French's mustard adds a little zing to this bean recipe!

Del Monte Sliced Pineapple Tropic Salad Dessert

From Better Homes and Gardens, June 1952

1952 was the peak of tropical recipes in the magazines. Pineapple desserts were something new and exotic and this one looks luscious! The only caveat: Del Monte Apricot or Peach nectar. As far as I know, they don't make this anymore, if anyone knows otherwise, let me know! There must be a substitute out there, or you can get creative and make your own with a juicer. The treat looks pretty and refreshing!

Crisco's Country Apple Pie

Better Homes and Gardens, June 1952

Here's an all-American classic: The traditional apple pie, cooking with real Crisco and stuffed with apples and raisins. Wouldn't this be perfect for a Labor Day picnic?? It sounds like the crust of this pie will crisp to perfection, the only thing that can spoil this timeless dessert is a soggy crust! Give this classic recipe a try...

Baker's Coconut Chocolate Pie

This recipe is from sometime in the early 50's but I didn't get a year down. It's a coconut recipe-so it must be the 50's! Back when Hawaii was new and tropical flavors were all the rage.
Coconut lovers, here is another recipe for you! (Not for me!) Enjoy!

Stokely's Ham Cornucopias

Sounds like a Thanksgiving recipe in April, but who says the cornucopia is only for November?? These little ham cornucopias would make a great hors d'Oeuvres all year long! Low-carb lovers would like this too because there's no bread. The ad says "Finest down to earth plan for a heavenly luncheon" and I agree!

Campbells Chicken ala King

Coming out of a vintage Better Homes and Gardens is this hearty soup recipe. Good ole' Campbells soup is still around, so all the ingredients should be readily available. This recipe sounds delicious! I'd pass on the pimento and green pepper but...to each his own!

Durkee's Margarine and Coconut

Durkee's made margarine and coconut?? Is this the same Durkee's that made fried onions?? Well, this item is vintage now, but the recipes can easily be made with today's ingredients.
First up is a cheese sauce for a springtime platter. Yummm! There is nothing like melted cheese, and this adds a touch of garlic salt. Pour it on everything!!
The second recipe keeps the springtime theme with a coconut mocha frosting - Wow! Fans of coconut out there will love this!

Peaches in Orange Sauce

I'm back with some new vintage recipes-and there's lots more to come!

I forgot to write down the date for these recipes, but I believe it was early 1950's Better Homes and Gardens. A cling peaches recipes sounds very early 50's, canned fruit were all the rage back then. Here's a twist on regular canned peaches-no pun intended!-an orange twist that is. How simple is this recipe?? And it sounds mighty fine for this warm springtime weather. Summer dessert???...
